Call to kids to get smart
Eliana Maneval, a LCPC patient, recently won a “Get Smart Kid’s Art Competition” sponsored by the Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Eliana created
a poster with a superhero giving advice on how people, especial- ly kids, could avoid germs and unnecessary illness. The inspira- tion for her message came from her mom, Deb, who is always telling her to wash her hands.
For winning in the 11- 12 age category, Eliana received a certi cate from Dr. Rachel Levine, PA Physician General, and was invited to give a short speech on the stairs of Rotunda in the State Capitol in Harrisburg and to meet some local political representatives. It was an
amazing
experience as
this was the
rst time
Eliana had ever
given a public
speech. As if
this was not
already a very
special day,
she was then
amazed to see
the Clinic’s Drs. Long and Prada walking through the Rotunda on their way to a meeting!
Eliana plans to keep up her drawing because it is fun for her.
As her mom says, “her cleft issues are not going to slow her down or hold her back”.
