Ear and hearing care are a critical component of the overall health assessment performed at the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic. It is very common to have hearing loss, recurrent ear infections, and other ear problems related to your child’s cleft. Other common ENT problems like sleep apnea and nasal congestion are common among all children regardless if you have a cleft. Your ENT evaluation at LCPC will be comprehensive and include all aspects of cleft and non-cleft ENT problems.
COMMON SERVICES
ENT works closely with audiology to assess your child’s hearing and recommend the appropriate intervention if there is a hearing loss. We are also able to perform simple ear procedures like wax removal, treat ear drainage, and remove foreign bodies from the ear. For more involved problems, we can discuss surgical interventions such as ear tubes or ear drum repair. We also work closely with speech pathology to evaluate your child’s ability to swallow and speak appropriately. We can perform nasal endoscopy which allows a detailed evaluation of the nasal cavity and the palate. This helps us determine if there are any medical problems or any functional problems that may need another intervention like surgery.
Our team has a significant amount of experience working in a multi-disciplinary fashion where we can appreciate the skills and functions of our professional colleagues while having the ability provide our own expertise in the field of ear nose and throat.
FREQUENCY OF APPOINTMENTS
Audiology is available every team visit. ENT care is available two half-days a month. Each ENT practitioner is also part of a local private practice, which has much more availability for ENT issues that arise between team visits.
